A JOURNEY INTO THE ITALIAN ART
From the Middle Ages to the Late Baroque
Logge dei Tiratori – Piazza 40 Martiri – Gubbio
From 31st May to 1th July 2018 (prolonged until 15th July)
Set up by Fondazione CariPerugia Arte and opened on May 31 at Logge dei Tiratori della Lana in Gubbio, the exhibition “A Journey into the Italian Art” offers a fascinating journey through the history of Italian art from the Middle Ages to Late Baroque. One of the most valuable works in the exhibition, realized thanks to the willingness of Giorgio Baratti, is a panel with La Madonna del Latte attributed to a master from Abruzzo of the mid 13th century. Visitors will then come across a series of sculptures (in marble, terracotta, wood and bronze) by artists active in the 15th and 16th centuries, including Antonio Elia, Gregorio di Lorenzo, Niccolò de’ Conti, Agostino de’ Fondulis and Raffaello da Montelupo. There is also a large collection of paintings from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Thanks to the presence of more or less well-known painters from different “schools”, visitors will be able to understand Italy’s unique and complex “artistic geography”.
The Venetian school is represented by Giovanni Cariani, Felice Brusasorci, Girolamo Forabosco and Sebastiano Ricci, the Lombard school by Stefano Danedi, known as Montalto, Francesco Cairo and Giacomo Ceruti and the Florentine school by Zanobi Poggini and Santi di Tito. The picture gallery features works by famous painters such as Guido Reni (from Bologna), Battistello Caracciolo (from Naples) and Pier Francesco Mola (from Ticino, active in Rome). In this way, the exhibition seeks to give an account of the evolution of styles and to provide a broad overview of the subjects dealt with by the artists, from sacred themes to the still life genre (Meiffren Comte) and portraiture (Giuseppe Vermiglio). In addition to sculptures and paintings, visitors will find a refined collection of furniture and objects (tapestries, wedding chests, altar frontals, armchairs and tables) manufactured in Italy and abroad between the 16th and 18th centuries.
