MEN AND GODS
The ’600 Genoese Collectors
Palazzo della Meridiana – 4, Salita San Francesco – Genoa
February 19 – June 5 2016
Through the discovery of 60 paintings from private collections, the exhibition “Men and Gods – The ’600 Genoa Collectors” aims to investigate one of the most interesting chapters of the Genoese and Ligurian artistic culture: the 17th century. The exhibition, curated by Anna Orlando and staged in the space of the Palazzo della Meridiana in the heart of the town museum district, estabilishes and encourages knowledge relationships between the works on display to the public (in museums and churches) and the rich heritage of private collectors (for Genoa an ancient tradition and a real cultural wealth).
Giorgio Baratti Antiques displays three paintings in the important exhibition “Men and Gods”: Christ Driving the Merchants from the Temple by Giulio Benso, Ecce Homo by Bartolomeo Biscaino and Bacchanal with Maenads, Satyrs and Nymphs by Bartolomeo Guidobono called The Priest of Savona. Curated by Anna Orlando and published by Sagep Editori, the exhibition catalog shows on cover one of the three paintings from Baratti Collection, Christ Driving the Merchants from the Temple, considered by the curator the most representative image of the whole exhibition.
